Art of Black Miami: Celebrating Arts Culture and Diversity During Miami Art Week & Beyond
 
Promote your upcoming exhibition, art event, or program on the Art of Black Miami Calendar of Events. If you are producing an art event that highlights the artistic and cultural landscape found in Miami's heritage neighborhoods and communities, celebrating the black diaspora, we want to hear from you! The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau has a dedicated website where your event can be marketed and promoted globally during Miami Art Week and beyond. Art of Black Miami Podcast Series II
 
As part of a continuation of year-round programming that showcases the diversity of visual arts celebrating the black diaspora, Art of Black Miami (AOBM) podcast series continues to highlight Miami-based artists. The AOBM podcast features a varied selection of emerging and experienced artists who make Miami an exciting place to live and visit. The monthly podcast presents artists as they share their experiences and artistic expressions influenced by Miami’s cultural landscape.  The podcast is available to stream for free on the GMCVB website (ArtofBlackMiami.com), Podbean, Google Podcasts, and Spotify. The Creative Happy Hour : Noche de Arte with Alejandro Perez
 
On September 12, join Warehouse 4726 in the expansive lobby of the InterContinental Miami Hotel for Noche de Arte, a creative happy hour event featuring a different Miami-based artist each month. A Reflection of Me Inc. Presents: Ignite The Artist Within Affair 
 
A Reflection of Me Inc. will host an art fundraising event, Ignite The Artist Within Affair on September 17 at the FIU Kovens Conference Center in North Miami. The formal black tie affair will be hosted by Deborah Souverain of CBS Miami and keynote speaker by Vanessa Joseph Esq., live entertainment by Jazz ensembles Dony and Friends, featuring Leesa Richards. The event will feature a special art exhibition curated by multimedia artist Zeek Mathias. Proceeds from the event will further the works of A Reflection of Me Inc’s cause in teaching and using artistic images and expressions to inspire the love of self, culture and to promote social engagement. DVCAI Caribbean Crossroads Tea
 
The Koubek Center in partnership with DVCAI presents The Caribbean Crossroads Tea on September 25. Designed to cultivate a more connected, arts-invested Miami Community, Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator (DVCAI) hosts a Caribbean Crossroads Tea that encourages new, young and diverse art enthusiasts to learn more about art collecting. La Mano Hispana:  Opening Night Reception & Call to Artists
 
The City of Hialeah presents La Mano Hispana, a collective art exhibit celebrating the heritage and accomplishments of Hispanic culture.  An opening night reception will be held on September 30 at the Milander Center for Arts and Entertainment. Enjoy live entertainment, light bites and refreshments, along with an artisan market comprised of local small businesses. This vibrant gallery brings in hundreds of people every year who come to enjoy the rich cultural expressions of Hispanic traditions, history, and contemporary life. With multiple Hispanic countries represented in some way, there is something for everyone to take pride in!  Parking and entrance are free, the exhibit will run through November 4. CollaboARTive Launch Party
 
Warehouse 4726 & Font Squared are thrilled to launch collaboARTive, a new initiative for artists and creatives with busy lives, families, full time gigs, financial limitations and other obstacles to continuing their practice of making work. As a non-profit arts organization, they are deeply committed to providing affordable and flexible options for more of Miami's artist community. Call to Artists: Grove Central
 
Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program and Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works with partners Terra and Grass River Property request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to commission artworks for the new Grove Central development in Miami, Florida.  Application deadline is by midnight, September 23.  Open to professional visual artists based in south Florida. Call to Artist: Le Art Noir, Diversity in Color
 
Le Art Noir, Diversity in Color takes place during Art Basel Miami Beach, December 1-3 at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. It's a unique multicultural collaboration of artists from around the globe showcasing innovative exhibitions that capture the heartbeat of our society and focus on relevant topics. Their goal is to feature creators that have their finger on the pulse of pop culture and who through their creative lens, shed light on poignant matters and inspire change. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Proposed County Arts and Cultural Budget
 
On September 6, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava convened a virtual town meeting about the proposed FY 22-23 budget for the arts and cultural community. Mayor Levine Cava shared the great news that her proposed budget includes increased support for the arts and progressively addresses many other key issues facing our community.  The Mayor asked to share the presentation from last night’s meeting and it is linked here for your reference. The town meeting was very well-attended and represented the incredible diversity of arts organizations and artists that are making our community one of the most inclusive and dynamic places in the world. Beyond the Sound of Silence. Latin-American Artists Connecting Sound, Art, and Society
 
This multi-sensory exhibition featuring leading artists from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, all of whom explore the interaction of image, sound, memory, and perception. Thematic focuses include the intersection of indigenous traditions with contemporary art as well as the relationship between form and language in musical implements, including the most personal instrument: the human voice. Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator Presents Depth of Identity: Art as Memory and Archive
 
The unprecedented exhibition Depth of Identity: Art as Memory and Archive explores the impact and legacy of the African, Indo, and Caribbean Diaspora across US cities and the Caribbean. Experience the art and culture of the African Diaspora during a three-month exhibition through October 20, 2022, at Green Space Miami, featuring nineteen artists. Scheduled events include visual art, music, film, teas, and art performances by Yacine Tilala Fall and Kim Yantis during the run of the exhibition. 
 
 
 
CAPTURE: a Portrait of the Pandemic
 
HistoryMiami Museum is pleased to announce the launch of CAPTURE: a Portrait of the Pandemic, created by one of Miami's most sought-after club DJs, Rahsaan "Fly Guy" Alexander. The museum’s Center for Photography will serve as the backdrop for Alexander's largest show to date, with dozens of never-before-exhibited photos. The exhibition's images are a visual representation of experiences and attitudes resulting from the life-altering year of 2020 when our community struggled with the realities of a pandemic, racial injustice protests, homelessness, and the entertainment industry on the brink of implosion. The images focus on themes ranging from protests to nightlife, using both black-and-white and color imagery to tell moving stories of love, disbelief, rage, and change. Along with the photography, HistoryMiami will also showcase Rahsaan's short documentary film, PIVOT: A 2020 - On view through January 8, 2023.
 
 
 
Mariano: Variations on a Theme at the PAMM
 
Mariano: Variations on a Theme is the first major retrospective exhibition of the work of Cuban artist Mariano Rodríguez in the United States. Widely known simply as “Mariano”, the artist is considered one of the most important painters of the second avant-garde, the second generation of Cuban modernists who, in the 1940s and 1950s, used his work to construct and express their vision of the essence of Cuban national identity. On view at the PAMM through January 22, 2023.

Veo Veo, I See I See, Mwen wè Mwen wè, an Interactive Mural & Oral History Project Celebrating Black Miami History
 
The Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora (MoCAAD) is honoring the late Judge Lawson E. Thomas – a man who fought fearlessly for the rights of Black people in Miami – with a mural etched on the building that once housed his Overtown law office at 1021 NW Second Ave.  The 49′ x 14′ work entitled “OVERtown: Our Family Tree,” is one of four murals that are a part of the museum’s “Veo Veo, I See I see, Mwen wè Mwen wè” interactive public art project exploring Overtown through visual art, storytelling and technology. The mural is produced by Anthony “Mojo” Reed II, Louis-born, Miami-based artist.  Click here to learn more about the interactive mural project.
 
 
 
HistoryMiami Museum Selects Photography Fellow
 
HistoryMiami Museum’s Center for Photography is excited to announce Woosler Delisfort as the winner of the newly created photography fellowship for emerging, local documentary photographers! The fellowship was created to capture and amplify community stories relating to Black Indigenous, People of Color, and Latinx community members. After reviewing dozens of applications, the esteemed panel including Aldeide Delgado, CW Griffin, and Caroline Laporte chose Delisfort for his project focused on Miami’s spiritual community. Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Grant Guidelines
 
The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs has released guidelines and deadline schedules for the fiscal year 2022-2023 fall cycle of arts and cultural grants programs available to Miami-Dade County based non-profit cultural groups. Guidelines containing information regarding eligibility requirements, funding requests and program criteria can be downloaded here. Grant guidelines can also be requested by calling the Department of Cultural Affairs at (305) 375-4634 or via email at culture@miamidade.gov.
