Miami Art Week Showcases Arts Culture and Diversity With Art of Black Miami 
 
This year’s Art of Black Miami events will be activated and rolled out through curated art initiatives organized by art organizations, galleries, and spaces in neighborhoods including Historic Overtown, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Opa Locka, North Miami, The Airport Area, Design District, Downtown Miami, Miami Beach and South Dade. The 2022 Art of Black Miami exhibitions and events will offer a unique appeal and cultural aesthetic represented in exhibitions, fairs, performances, artist talks, films, popup events, and a mural unveiling. Art of Black Miami is a marketing platform and destination driver that showcases the diversity of the visual arts locally, nationally and internationally, celebrating the black diaspora.
 
 
 
Celebrate our Cultural Community - Return & Rediscover the Arts Campaign
 
Launched during National Arts & Humanities Month and to kick-off the 2022-2023 cultural season, this campaign is developed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs to invite all arts groups, artists and cultural institutions to join in promoting the non-stop and outstanding activities presented by our cultural community. Hampton Art Lovers + Lowe Museum Presents: Community Art Hop 
 
On November 12, join the Hampton Art Lovers at the Historic Ward Rooming House, Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora, Miami MoCAAD, Lowe Art Museum, and University of Miami Center for Global Black Studies as we celebrate the work of Charles White, Charles Hume Jr. and muralist, Anthony "Mojo" Reed II. Conversations with Miami's Cultural Pioneers: Marshall Davis
 
Join the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders for a virtual interview with Marshall Davis, Managing Director of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, with opening remarks by Michael Spring, Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. For 38 years,  Mr. Davis has helped shape Miami’s cultural landscape through his work at the Center, promoting Black arts excellence and providing exceptional arts education. Mr. Davis designed revolutionary, multidisciplinary arts training programs to engage students with their cultural heritage while training in theater, dance, music and the visual arts. Miami Design District Public Art Tour
 
Join us on November 19 for a walking tour of the Miami Design District, as we explore the history of the art and architecture that characterize the neighborhood. Miami MoCAAD Kicks Off Soul Basel & Art Miami Week
 
The Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora Immersive Art Experience Set to Kick-Off Soul Basel at Their Creative Conversation and Celebration on November 27 at the Ward Rooming House in Historic Overtown.  The Rich History of The International Longshoremen's Association Local 1416 in Historic Overtown provides a space for the Intersection of art, oral histories, and technology.  Reserve a spot here. Art Basel’s 20th Anniversary
 
Art Basel’s 20th anniversary in Miami Beach will be its biggest fair ever, with a milestone 283 galleries joining the lineup. The list of participants includes 26 first-timers with a total of 38 countries and territories represented overall. CAPTURE: a Portrait of the Pandemic
 
HistoryMiami Museum is pleased to announce the launch of CAPTURE: a Portrait of the Pandemic, created by one of Miami's most sought-after club DJs, Rahsaan "Fly Guy" Alexander. The museum’s Center for Photography will serve as the backdrop for Alexander's largest show to date, with dozens of never-before-exhibited photos. The exhibition's images are a visual representation of experiences and attitudes resulting from the life-altering year of 2020 when our community struggled with the realities of a pandemic, racial injustice protests, homelessness, and the entertainment industry on the brink of implosion. The images focus on themes ranging from protests to nightlife, using both black-and-white and color imagery to tell moving stories of love, disbelief, rage, and change. Along with the photography, HistoryMiami will also showcase Rahsaan's short documentary film, PIVOT: A 2020 - On view through January 8, 2023.
 
 
 
FAMA Presents Threading the City
 
Threading the City Celebrates Miami and the Burgeoning of the World of Textile Arts. A great range of textile art exhibitions, installations, and events will thread across Miami from through January 2023. Threading the City is a fusion of the Fiber Artists Miami Association (FAMA) and the accumulated experiences of local and international curators, art historians, and artists. The city-wide events are an investment in economic, cultural, and social platforms that revitalize and showcase the extraordinary talent of local and international textile artists.  Learn more here.
 
 
 
Mariano: Variations on a Theme at the PAMM
 
Mariano: Variations on a Theme is the first major retrospective exhibition of the work of Cuban artist Mariano Rodríguez in the United States. Widely known simply as “Mariano”, the artist is considered one of the most important painters of the second avant-garde, the second generation of Cuban modernists who, in the 1940s and 1950s, used his work to construct and express their vision of the essence of Cuban national identity. On view at the PAMM through January 22, 2023.
 
 
 
Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow
 
Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow explores the struggle for full citizenship and racial equality that unfolded in the 50 years after the Civil War. When slavery ended in 1865, a period of Reconstruction began, leading to such achievements as the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the Constitution. By 1868, all persons born in the United States were citizens and equal before the law. But efforts to create an interracial democracy were contested from the start. A harsh backlash ensued, ushering in a half-century of the “separate but equal” age of Jim Crow. On view through February 12, 2023, click here to learn more.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Proposed County Arts and Cultural Budget
 
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava convened a virtual town meeting about the proposed FY 22-23 budget for the arts and cultural community. Mayor Levine Cava shared the great news that her proposed budget includes increased support for the arts and progressively addresses many other key issues facing our community.  The Mayor asked to share the presentation from last night’s meeting and it is linked here for your reference. The town meeting was very well-attended and represented the incredible diversity of arts organizations and artists that are making our community one of the most inclusive and dynamic places in the world. Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Grant Guidelines
 
The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs has released guidelines and deadline schedules for the fiscal year 2022-2023 fall cycle of arts and cultural grants programs available to Miami-Dade County based non-profit cultural groups. Guidelines containing information regarding eligibility requirements, funding requests and program criteria can be downloaded here. Grant guidelines can also be requested by calling the Department of Cultural Affairs at (305) 375-4634 or via email at culture@miamidade.gov.
