Hello everyone:
Last Tuesday was a very special day for us, for our partners and for our industry as we all gathered for the "topping-off ceremony" of the new Grand Hyatt Miami Beach that now is on schedule to open in November of next year. The topping-off was a chance to celebrate all who have had a hand and vision in making this new 800-room headquarter hotel connected to the Miami Beach Convention Center possible.
Dignitaries gathered included the developers David Martin, the CEO of Terra Group, and Aly-Khan Merali, President and CFO of Turnberry (representing Turnberry's Chair and CEO, Jackie Sopher). Also with us was Adam Rohman, the Head of the Americas for Hyatt Hotels, along with, of course, our key partners and allies Mary Rogers, Turnberry's Executive Vice President, Hospitality Operations, and Freddie Peterson, General Manager of the Miami Beach Convention Center (and many of his key sales team). The new hotel's recently appointed General Manager, Ulrich Samietz, was there along with Braedan Quigley, the hotel's Director of Sales and Marketing, along with several of their new sales team. Our Senior Vice President of Convention Sales and Client Services, Carol Motley, our VP, Alex Batista, and many on our convention sales and services team were also there to take in this key milestone as the hotel nears completion.
Both Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner addressed the audience (joined in support by several Miami-Dade County and City of Miami Beach commissioners). The County and the City of Miami Beach are major investors in the project along with the significant renovation and expansion of the Miami Beach Convention Center, which was a major catalyst in getting us where we are today. City of Miami Beach City Manager Eric Carpenter and many of his key staff ...
