Celebrating Women's History Month

March marks National Women's History Month, a nationwide celebration honoring the profound impact women have made across the United States and recognizing their achievements throughout American history in fields ranging from business and education to the arts and public service. In tribute to this important month, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau has curated a thoughtful guide featuring special events, women-owned businesses, and inspiring ways to celebrate and support women across our community all month long.

Save the Date - 33rd  Annual H.O.T. (Hospitality Open Tournament) Challenge Golf Tournament

Mark your calendar for the 33rd Annual H.O.T. Challenge Golf Tournament, hosted by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, on May 8 at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa. For more than three decades, this premier hospitality event has raised over $3.3 million in scholarships, supporting more than 450 students pursuing careers in tourism and hospitality—many now thriving in our local industry. Whether you participate as a golfer, sponsor, or auction donor, your involvement directly benefits the program while offering a day of exceptional golf, high-level networking, and outstanding culinary experiences. Jazz in the Gardens

Calle Ocho Music Festival

Feel the rhythm of Carnaval Miami at the Calle Ocho Music Festival on March 15. Feria de Sevilla en Miami
Step into the spirit of southern Spain at Feria de Sevilla, a daylong celebration taking place March 14 at Tropical Park. Inspired by Seville’s famed spring fair, the festival transforms the park into a lively landscape of colorful casetas—decorated booths offering authentic Spanish cuisine and beverages for purchase throughout the day. Guests will enjoy electrifying flamenco music and dance, elegant horse show presentations, and up to eight hours of continuous live entertainment. Designed as an open-air, family-friendly experience, Feria de Sevilla invites all ages to immerse themselves in the music, flavors, and traditions of Andalusia—no passport required.

In Memory

Thelma Vernell Anderson Gibson was born December 17, 1926, and grew up in Coconut Grove. For more than 50 years Mrs. Thelma Gibson played a vital role in promoting social justice and equality in Miami-Dade.  She was instrumental in establishing programs that empowered youth, health and fostered cultural awareness. Her legacy is marked by her unwavering commitment to uplifting her community, supporting hospitality & tourism especially in Coconut Grove. Her impact will continue to inspire future generations. 

Featured Festival: Ultra Music Festival

Ultra Music Festival returns to its roots this spring at Bayfront Park, March 27–29. From its 1999 beginnings as a small beach DJ gathering, Ultra has grown into a global phenomenon with stages from Croatia to Japan. Ultra 2026 promises an electrifying lineup of DJ debuts, first-time performers, and epic back-to-back sets—including the highly anticipated collaboration of Alesso and Martin Garrix on the mainstage. Whether you’re a returning fan or experiencing Ultra for the first time, this year’s festival delivers unforgettable performances and high-energy moments you won’t want to miss. Save the date for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) Annual State of the Travel & Tourism Industry presentation on June 3 at the iconic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. Industry leaders will gather as the GMCVB unveils the official 2025 Greater Miami & Miami Beach Visitor Industry Report, offering key insights into performance, trends and the road ahead. AfriKin: Art, Jazz and Champagne

An inspiring evening of visual art, live jazz, and celebration shines a spotlight on women’s creative contributions across cultures at AfriKin: Art, Jazz and Champagne. Held March 22 at the Scott Galvin Community Center in North Miami in honor of Women’s History Month, this annual event features an all-women art exhibition paired with live jazz performances and champagne toasts. The musical program pays tribute to jazz pioneers like Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone, while also honoring contemporary trailblazers. VIC Scholars at Orientation

Kicking Off the Year with Purpose: VIC Student Orientation & Workshop 

The VIC Scholarship recipients were recently hosted at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau for their annual VIC Student Orientation and first Workshop of the year. The orientation allowed students to engage in conversation, network, and revisit expectations as VIC Scholars. This was followed by an engaging workshop, Hospitality at Home, facilitated by VIC alum Crystal Harvey of Crystal Clear Hospitality, focused on self-care and essential soft skills needed in the Hospitality and Tourism industry. Students were also inspired by remarks from Dr. Graylyn Swilley-Woods, Executive Director of the Visitor Industry Council; Connie Kinnard, Senior Vice President of Multicultural Tourism & Development; and David Whitaker, President & Chief Executive Officer. It was an amazing way to kick off an exciting year for our VIC Scholars.
