WHAT'S HAPPENING IN TRAVEL & TOURISM

Hello everyone,
It takes a few weeks to formally compile and collect, and we’ve now received the final hotel performance report for the full month of January. Hotel performance remains one of the key barometers of the health of our tourism and hospitality industry — and, in our case, Miami-Dade County’s primary economic engine.
I’m really pleased to share — as you’ll see on the charts on the following page — that Miami-Dade County hotels achieved the highest occupancy and ranked No. 1 among the nation’s top 25 largest markets. The 81.9% occupancy for the month represents a 3.2% increase over last January.
Equally important, Miami-Dade County hotels generated an average daily rate (ADR) of $287.84 — up 12.4% year over year. I want to repeat that: up 12.4%.
That represents 12% more revenues, 12% more state and local sales taxes generated and 12% more resort taxes collected.
Our national ranking for ADR in January among the 25 largest markets was 2nd only to San Francisco, which had an occupancy average of 62.4% and ...
