WHAT'S HAPPENING IN TRAVEL & TOURISM

Hello everyone:
As we continue to march through August, we are closely monitoring an important barometer which is the performance of our partner hotels in terms of occupancy and average daily rate. We now have hotel data covering the first half of August.
It is encouraging to see that our hotel occupancy has remained stable averaging 70.3% for this period – reflecting an equally encouraging increase of 3.8% over the same period last August. Thanks in part to this stability, our hotel average daily rate has also remained steady. The $164.66 average per night for the first half of August represents a 2.2% increase when compared to the same time last year.
Our expectations and goals remain to improve upon these numbers especially in the last quarter of the calendar year. The current numbers reported help us continue to combat the drag that many other parts of the country are experiencing. As an example, in July, the most recent full month of reporting indicates that of the largest 25 hotel and convention center destinations in the nation, 17 experienced a decline in occupancy when compared to last...
