Message from the President

Hello everyone:

As we look ahead to an extraordinary lineup of global events in the coming year, Miami-Dade County is making bold moves to ensure the world arrives in style – and with ease.

This summer, Miami International Airport (MIA) is buzzing with historic momentum. American Airlines, MIA’s largest carrier and a valued partner of the GMCVB, has launched its biggest summer schedule ever from Miami. With more than 37,000 flights planned through early September – including new service to Rome – American now connects Miami to 170 destinations across the globe. We are especially thankful for the efforts of J.C. Liscano, vice president of MIA hub operations at American Airlines and a GMCVB board member, for helping drive this unprecedented growth.

All the while, MIA continues to break records – welcoming nearly 56 million passengers in 2024 (the highest in its history) – and building on that momentum with 14.9 million passengers in Q1 2025, an 11.6% increase over the same period last year. This sustained growth reinforces MIA’s role as a critical global gateway and economic driver for our region.

Behind the scenes and under the leadership of GMCVB board member and airport director Ralph Cutié and his skillful team, Miami-Dade County’s ambitious MIA modernization plan is already taking shape, driving improvements that strengthen infrastructure, enhance the traveler experience, and ensure the airport is ready for future demand.
