June a Month of Culture, Celebration and Appreciation
June not only marks the beginning of the summer but also celebrates different cultures. The month of June celebrates the African American musical influences during National Black Music Month, which is a huge part of our nations cultural fabric. It also honors Caribbean-American Heritage Month recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. From a historical perspective, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 – the day Black Americans in Texas were informed that slavery had been abolished and enslaved people were declared free. Celebrate Juneteenth in Miami, where our rich cultural heritage comes alive in honor of this historic day. See how Greater Miami and Miami Beach celebrates our heritage communities in Multicultural Miami.
