87th Annual Royal Poinciana Fiesta - The County’s Longest-Running Festival Presented by the Tropical Flowering Tree Society

Saturday, June 8, 2024 2:00 PM Royal Poinciana Symposium at the Pinecrest Library, 5835 SW 111th Street, Miami, in partnership with the Miami Pioneers and Natives of Dade. Steve Pearson, former Director of the Gifford Arboretum and past president of the Tropical Flowering Tree Society, will present the history of the Royal Poinciana, its origins in S. Florida and its use by early settlers, as well as information on the care and horticultural aspects of the tree, and the inspiration it has provided in art, music, and poetry. The event is free and free parking available in surrounding area.
Sunday, June 9th, 2024 6:00 - 9:00 PM Poinciana Fiesta Celebration Party and Reception in the Garden House of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables. Starting at 6 PM, trolley tours of Fairchild. Starting at 7 PM, refreshments will be served including Royal Poinciana Punch. At 7:30 PM, presentations will take place for the 2024 Royal Poinciana Fiesta Queen and Court scholarship recipients and the Larry Schokman Book Award recipient. Poinciana cake will be served at the end of the presentations. There will be a special display of renown Key West artist Roy Rolston’s vibrant works featuring Royal Poincianas, curated by his daughter, Michelle, who will be in attendance. Limited edition Royal Poinciana Fiesta posters will be available for sale. This event open to the public, but guests are requested to bring a dish to share or make a $15 donation. New memberships in the Tropical Flowering Tree Society are encouraged. Park and enter at the Fairchild South Entrance on Old Cutler Road (the old, traditional entrance to Fairchild.) RSVP here.
Wednesday, June 12, 2024 7:00-9:00 PM Painting Royal Poinciana Trees. A “cocktail party with a paintbrush”. Join in for a fun experience painting Royal Poinciana Trees at this unique event, no previous art experience necessary. All supplies are included. Take home a wonderful DIY painting! Saturday, June 15th, 2024 2:00PM Tree Planting: The Tropical Flowering Tree Society, along with the Opa-locka Preservation Association and TREEmendous Miami, will host a tree planting in the historic city of Opa-locka as part of the 2024 Royal Poinciana Fiesta. Opa-locka is Miami-Dade’s only municipality of a unique Moorish Revival design. The ceremony will kick-off the plantings at the historic Opa-locka Seaboard Air Line Railroad Station located at 490 Ali Baba Avenue, Opa-locka, FL, with other larger specimens being planted strategically throughout the city limits.
Sunday, June 16th, 2024 10:00AM - 1:00PM Father’s Day Bike Tour led by Bike Walk Coral Gables and Dade Heritage Trust. Make it a family event. It starts at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables. Celebrate the magnificent Flame Tree on this tour of our best Royal Poincianas in full flower. Bring your own bike. Sunday, June 16th, 2024 2:30-5:00 PM The Royal Poincianas Trolley Tour begins at the Coral Gables Library, 3443 Segovia Street, highlighting the best trees and blossoms of the 2024 season. Narrated by two poinciana experts and past presidents of the Tropical Flowering Tree Society. Tickets $25 pp. Seating is limited to two trolleys, purchase your tickets here in advance. Free parking available in surrounding area next to the Library.
Advanced Events: Friday, April 13, 2024 - Poinciana Tree Planting: The Opa-Locka Preservation Association with the Tropical Flowering Tree Society will commemorate the first-annual MENA Fest in Opa-Locka on April 13 from 12-5 p.m. with a tree planting in the Opa-Locka Landscape Trail. 151 Perviz Avenue, Opa-Locka.
Friday, April 26 – Arbor Day: The Coral Gables Landscape Beautification Advisory Board and the Coral Gables Garden Club will commemorate Arbor Day by planting a Royal Poinciana tree at the green space at the intersection of Riviera and University Drives, south of the War Memorial Youth Center. The event starts at 9 a.m. and is open to the public.
