FIU Leads Alliance to Build Hospitality Pipeline for Underrepresented Minority Students and Diverse Leadership in Hospitality
 
A bold, new initiative is under way across the U.S. to create a pathway for Black and Hispanic students to become future leaders in hospitality, one of the world’s largest industries. The Alliance for Hospitality Equity and Diversity (AHED), led by the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University (FIU), is on a mission to create a nationwide recruitment infrastructure to increase diversity among students at member universities. Join the Greater Miami & the Beaches Hotel Association (GMBHA) for their first of many "GMBHA Leading Hoteliers Series" on October 7 at 1 Hotel South Beach. Their first event will be held with a conversation with Michael L. Rock, SVP Head of Asset Management, Host Hotels & Resorts. We will hear about his career, passion for the hospitality and tourism industry and how his transition from hotel operations to now asset management. Michael will about the difference of owners and operators, how everything in going in the U.S., Miami and other major U.S. cities.
 
 
 
International Housekeeping & Environmental Service Week
 
Housekeeping Week, September 11-17, is a dedicated week that enables us to recognize or unsung heroes on the front lines who keep our hotel rooms, public area, and back of the house clean and safe for those who work, visit and live at the property.  Companies generally celebrate it by giving their workers gifts, hosting an end-of the-week party, and just saying thank you for their work each day. Indeed without housekeepers, diseases would spread, and productivity would decline. That is why we need to celebrate them!  Housekeeping is an integral profession — hotels, casinos, restaurants, and other establishments simply cannot do without these services. Learn more.

Miami Eats Campaign Wins at Governors Conference
 
Last week, the GMCVB’s Miami Eats campaign, shining a spotlight on local restaurants and urging locals to Order Out and Help Out during the pandemic, took home Visit Florida’s highest tourism marketing honor, “The Henry” for Tourism Advocacy, during the Flagler Awards at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Miami has emerged as the U.S. capital of cool! We are honored that TIME Magazine has named Miami as one of the World's Greatest Places of 2022. Miami also ranked 38th on Time Out Magazine's list of 53 Best Cities in the World for 2022. The 2022 Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards have been announced and once again, Greater Miami and Miami Beach score big.
