2024 Serving the Arts Awards 
 
Arts patrons, elected officials, business leaders, and enthusiasts united for an inspiring morning dedicated to celebrating our vibrant cultural community. The 2024 Serving the Arts Awards took place April 3 at Miami-Dade County Auditorium, honoring arts professionals, businesses, and community leaders across Miami-Dade County.  This year, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) is proud to be well-represented. Art of Black Miami, under the leadership of Petra Brennan, Director of Tourism Business Enhancement, has been selected by the Arts & Business Council for the Arts & Cultural Tourism Award. Congratulations to Rosie Gordon Wallace, founder of Diaspora Vibe Culture Arts Incubator (DVCAI) and our art liaison, who received the  the inaugural Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Legacy in Arts Award. GMCVB Board member, Commissioner Keon Hardemon was recognized as the Elected Official of the Year. Our very own John Copeland, Director of Arts & Culture Tourism, was presented with the Shining Star Award. Kudos to all for their remarkable achievements! Click here for more.
City of Coral Gables Cultural Grant Program Webinar - Public Meeting
 
The City of Coral Gables invites nonprofit organizations to attend a Cultural Grants Webinar - Public Meeting on April 4 via Zoom. Organizations must have staff, board members, or volunteer representation present throughout the meeting.  Topics will include eligibility, required documents, allowable grant expenditures, evaluation criteria, agreement terms, updates, and the on-line grant application process. Noche de Arte
 
Join us in the lobby of the InterContinental Miami Hotel for Noche Arte. Hosted every Monday, it is an arts activation and exhibition that is breaking down barriers between artist and viewer. Each month, a different artist is highlighted, providing visitors with a broad introduction to the diverse artistic landscape of our vibrant city. April's artist is Picardo, a versatile artist from the Dominican Republic. His art is a fusion of innovation, vibrant colors, and original narratives, inviting viewers to explore a unique perspective on the world.

Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) Spring 2024 Programming
 
The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) will unveil its Spring 2024 lineup, highlighted by the debut of two exhibitions featuring artist Manuel Mathieu. World Discovered Under Other Skies and Dwelling on the Invisible mark Mathieu's inaugural major solo showcase in the United States. In addition to Mathieu's pieces, the museum will host a group exhibition titled Collection Focus: Light Play, showcasing works by nine contemporary artists from its permanent collection. Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs - Tourist Development Council (TDC) Grants Program 
 
The Tourist Development Council (TDC) Grants Program is responsive on a quarterly basis to organizations and events which promote Miami-Dade County’s appeal as a tourist destination by sponsoring tourist-oriented sports events, cultural and special events.The TDC’s objective in funding events is to attract tourists from outside of Miami-Dade County into the area, encourage overnight stays in our motels and hotels, and perpetuate an environment for growth in the tourism industry in Miami-Dade County. Hampton Art Lovers Presents: Conch House Hues
 
Welcome to the Historic Ward Rooming House's  latest exhibition, Conch House Hues, presented by Hampton Art Lovers! Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of color and creativity as they showcase the works of the late Ray Rolston. His works transport you to the tropical splendor of the Florida Keys through his distinctive use of color and style. Evidence of Contrary Instincts Art Exhibition at Ten North In Opa-Locka
 
Inspired by Alice Walker's In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens, Evidence of Contrary Instincts explores the complexities and contradictions within the creative voices of Black women throughout history. Drawing from the spirit of pioneering ancestors like poet Phillis Wheatley, the artworks pay homage to these women's invaluable contributions. Curated by Mercede Hankins, the exhibit features works by Florine Démosthène, Vanta Black, Rita Odibi, Carrington Ware, and Kandy G. Lopez. Unveiled during Women’s History Month, the exhibition also highlights the challenges Black women artists face today, including limited studio space and competing priorities. Despite these obstacles, the featured artists demonstrate remarkable resilience, transforming adversity into powerful artistic expressions. For more information visit Ten North Group. The Wolfsonian - Florida International University Presents Silhouettes: Image and Word in the Harlem Renaissance
 
The flourishing of literary, visual, and musical arts between the 1920s and '40s known as the Harlem Renaissance projected a new picture of Black life to the world.  On display at Florida International University's The Wolfsonian through June 23, Silhouettes: Image and Word in the Harlem Renaissance shows how artists associated with the movement asserted pride in black life and identity, a rising consciousness of inequality and discrimination, and interest in the rapidly changing modern world.
Miami-Dade County's Art in Public Places Launches a New Website
 
The Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places program, under the auspices of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, marks its golden jubilee with the unveiling of its new website. This user-friendly platform employs cutting-edge technology, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility to the arts and engage diverse audiences.  In addition to the website, Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places presents a series of complimentary public art tours, artist panel discussions, and workshops scheduled throughout the year to learn more.
