Global trends – love of the game

As Greater Miami hosts some of sport’s biggest events, including the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, Copa America, the LIV Golf Miami Tournament and this week’s Miami Open, American Express Travel has released its 2024 Global Travel Trends Report. Among the top trends driving bookings: love of the game. Sports fans are planning trips around athletic events, with Miami, New York and Paris topping the list and 67 percent of Millennial and Gen Z respondents (compared to 58 percent overall) interested in traveling for sporting events in 2024.

Did you know a portion of our hotel tax funds municipal transit systems? In 2023, trolleys throughout Miami-Dade reached nearly 11 million annual rides, providing residents a cost-free transportation alternative throughout our communities.

ASD kids can hang ten on Miami Beach

The City of Miami Beach hosts its 16th Annual Surf Camp for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), March 25-29. The weeklong camp at South Pointe Park gives ASD kids a chance to develop their individual abilities, focusing on swimming skills, basic oceanography, meteorology and open water surfing.

Doral honors women in the arts

Commemorating Women’s History Month for the seventh consecutive year, Doral Contemporary Art Museum hosts its 2024 Women of Vision exhibition, “Autonomous,” celebrating women in the arts. Free and open to the community through March 31.

OBC elects new members

Congratulations to GMCVB board members and new Orange Bowl Committee members Christine Valls and Caroline O’Connor. They were among nine new active members named who’ll play an integral role as the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) hosts the College Football Playoff Semifinal on January 9, 2025.

Underdeck wins federal grant

The City of Miami has been awarded a $60 million federal transportation grant to help fund the I-395 Underdeck and Heritage Trail connecting Overtown and Downtown Miami. Plans for the Underdeck include a 33-acre public open space and mile-long trail system promoting non-vehicular transportation options and a safe environment for recreational activities such as walking, jogging, biking and scooter riding.

Miami Film Festival returns

The 41st edition of the Miami Film Festival returns April 5-14, showcasing the world’s foremost emerging and established filmmakers. The film fest attracts close to 45,000 attendees a year, 300 filmmakers, producers, talent and industry professionals from around the world.

LIV Golf in Doral

The arts in Coral Gables

The City of Coral Gables invites nonprofit organizations to attend a Cultural Grants Webinar/Public Meeting, April 4. Participation is required to apply for grant funds that address the betterment of quality of life in Coral Gables through the visual and performing arts, history, historic preservation, folk life, international cultural exchange, and the literary and media arts.
