Black Hospitality Initiative Education Career Tour at Miami International Airport
 
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitor Bureau's (GMCVB) Black Hospitality Initiative (BHI) and Miami International Airport (MIA) Protocol & International Affairs Division partnered to host an educational tour and seminar held at MIA for over forty students attending Booker T. Washington Senior High School's Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, Future Leaders of Hospitality and Tourism, a youth organization in Historic Overtown and Liberty City and BHI Scholarship recipients enrolled in Aviation Administration at Florida Memorial University and Miami Dade College. Dr. Graylyn-Swilley Woods, Director of the BHI, and Desmond Alufohai, Director of the Protocol & International Affairs Division, made the opening and closing remarks. Ralph Cutié, Director & CEO of Miami-Dade Aviation Department; David Whitaker, President & CEO of the GMCVB ; Connie Kinnard, Senior Vice President of Multicultural Tourism & Development (GMCVB), and Juan Carlos, Vice President, of Latin America & the Caribbean, American Airlines gave greeting and special remarks on career pathways and opportunities at the airport received with enthusiasm from the students. In addition, Loretta McNeir, Department of Homeland Security,  and Sandra L. Jackson, Human Resources Manager, Miami-Dade Aviation Department, conducted an outstanding workshop/seminar on career opportunities in the aviation sector. Ed Ponder, the president of Future Leaders of Hospitality and Tourism, also made remarks. The workshop was followed by a dynamic Open Forum and Q&A with the students.

Black Hospitality Initiative Internship Program
 
The Black Hospitality Initiative (BHI) Internship Program remains open all year for eligible applicants to apply. The Internship Program will ensure the Hospitality and Tourism industry in Greater Miami and the beaches have a workforce prepared to serve and lead sustainable careers. BHI hoteliers, tourism, and educational partners are ready to fill employment needs. Interns are assigned to positions where they learn multiple transferable skills in areas that match their training, educational backgrounds, and interests.
