A nationally recognized month celebrating the rich culture, art, foods, and traditions of Haiti and its people. It is celebrated during the month of May as an expansion of Haitian Flag Day on May 18th. The flag day is observed with much pomp and splendor even by the diaspora. That’s how it found its way to the United States, a country that is home to a large Haitian population. In Miami, Little Haiti is the cultural heart of the Haitian diaspora and home to all things Caribbean that can be found in galleries, museums, family-owned restaurants, and bookstores. 

Another nationally recognized month celebrating the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders in the United States. A diverse group whose heritages represent more than 50 ethnic groups and 100 languages, who have made enormous contributions to the civic, cultural, and economic fabric of our nation.  In Miami, the Asian American Advisory Board under the Office of Community Advocacy is charged with making Miami-Dade County a community that embraces our diverse and unique population.

On April 20, 2006, President George W. Bush proclaimed that May would be Jewish American Heritage Month. The announcement was the crowning achievement in an effort by the Jewish Museum of Florida and South Florida Jewish community leaders that resulted in resolutions urging the president to proclaim a month that would recognize the more than 350-year history of Jewish contributions to American culture.
