South Beach Wine and Food Festival - Overtown Eatup!
 
Building on the success of Harlem EatUp! – the nation’s premier African American-focused festival that celebrates Harlem’s historically rich community of food, arts, and culture – SOBEWFF® is proud to program this first-of-its-kind event that highlights the equally diverse community of Overtown. Both curated and hosted by James Beard Award-winning chef, TV personality, cookbook author, and 2020 SOBEWFF® Tribute Dinner honoree Marcus Samuelsson, this rousing walk-around tasting will spotlight the local cuisine and culture that remains at the heart of the city’s Black history.  Joining Samuelsson is lifestyle maven and chef Amaris Jones, who is also the chef-at-large of Red Rooster.  Click here for more details on this event taking place on February 26 at Red Rooster Overtown.
 
                      
 
Moving Images: Moloch Tropical (2009)
 
Join the Museum of Contemporarty Art (MOCA), in partnership with GreenSpace Miami, for a screening of Raoul Peck’s “Moloch Tropical”.  After the screening, there will be a conversation with Arts For Learning Program Director, choreographer and dancer Ivy Bennet and Haitian-American filmmaker and artist, Monica Sorrell.  The film is about the political revolution in Haiti. Mambo Night Tropicana

Cécile McLorin Salvant: Ghost Song
 
Come to the Knight Concert Hall, on February 3, to be delighted by Cécile McLorin Salvant.  This 2020 MacArthur Fellow and three-time Grammy Award winner, singer and composer brings historical perspective, a renewed sense of drama and an enlightened musical understanding to jazz standards and her own compositions. The Miami native’s newest album, Ghost Song, features a diverse mix of seven originals and five interpretations on the themes of ghosts, nostalgia and yearning. Kurt Weill’s The Road of Promise

Author Talk: On Sunny Days We Sang by Jeannette Grunhous de Gelman
 
The Jewish Museum of Florida - Florida International University invites you to a book talk with Venezuelan Professor Jeannette Grunhaus de Gelman. On Sunny Days We Sang was first published in Spanish in 2018 under the title, En Los Días Claros Cantábamos. It is the author’s first full-length work, telling the story of her parents’ survival in Nazi-occupied Poland during the Second World War.  RSVP to this virtual event, via Zoom, on January 8.
 
                      
 
Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami - Spanish Classical Night
 
The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM), presents the premier of Spanish Classical Night, February 10  at the Miami Dade County Auditorium starring Cuban principal dancers with CCBM soloists and corps.  The show will nclude some of the best pieces of classical repertoire where both the subject and styles emphasize the relationship between classical ballet and traditional Spanish dance that has been an important influence in the repertoire of the 19th and 20th century ballets.  Click here for more information.
 
                      
 
Alexander C. Lightborune Street Naming Ceremony
 
On February 10, the City of Miami will honor a Black Miami Pioneer Incorporator, Alexander C. Lightborune, with a street designation.  The designation will encompass the area of Northwest 1st Court and 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Street. The ceremony will take place at the Greater Bethel AME church, the church that Lightbourne founded in 1896.  More details here.
 
                      
 
Cubans: An Epic Journey

Live on the Plaza - The Resolvers

Lead vocalists Sahara and Ojay Smith are the children of Jamaican singer-songwriter Ernie Smith. Miami's Richmond Heights: The Black Shangri-La - a Two Part DocuSeries
 
Hip Rock Star Advertising is excited to announce the exclusive premiere of the 2-part docuseries Miami's Richmond Heights: The Black Shangri-La.  Based on the book, Images of America: Miami’s Richmond Heights, the docuseries explores the lives of early Black World War II veterans in detail.  The docuseries introduces the grandchildren of the 1949 Black World War II veteran homeowners. It explores how the tight-knit community propelled them to their chosen professions and how the legacy continues today. The documentary will also take a closer look at the socioeconomic fabric of this time, segregation, and civil rights.  The film features interviews with notable historians from the Black community including our own Dr. Graylyn Swilley-Woods, Director, Black Hospitality Initiative, Multicultural Tourism & Development department at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.  The premiere is February 15, and will debut on streaming platforms including Crackle, Plex, and LG.

Oprah Winfrey Celebrates Black Excellence at the Inaugural HBCU Honors™.  Taped live from Miami’s Black Archives-Historic Lyric Theater, the inaugural HBCU Honors™ lauds eight extraordinary alumni from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) whose ground-breaking achievements have helped change the world. The HBCU Honors™ recipients will be announced with Oprah Winfrey as a special guest. The televised event’s world-premiere is on February 15, streaming on platforms including Crackle, Plex, and LG and is presented by AmFam Insurance.
 
                      
 
Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show

The Mersey Beatles:  Four Lads from Liverpool All the Hits!

Join us on February 19 for the Gay8 (Gay Ocho) Festival.  Hosted by 4Ward Miami, a non-profit that connects many of South Florida’s diverse LGBTQ+ communities, Gay8 comprises an irreverent street festival on Calle Ocho (Southwest 8th street) that’s been dubbed the largest Hispanic/Latino LGBTQ+ festival in America. More than 80,000 partiers are expected to fill the famous Little Havana thoroughfare to enjoy live music and performers, fashion and drag shows, free movie screenings at the historic Tower Theater, food, and shopping. Lunay - New Season Tour
 
See Lunay, at Oasis Wynwood, on February 25.  Lunay, is a Puerto Rican singer and rapper.  He was discovered on social media after creating freestyle raps and uploading them to his social media pages. Pastor Marc Cooper and Miami Mass Choir
 
A longtime friend of Free Gospel Sundays, Pastor Marc Cooper returns to the Knight Concert Hall stage with his magnificent ensemble. La Alegria de Vivir: A Moment in Venezuelan Jewish Life 
 
La Alegria de Vivir: A Moment in Venezuelan Jewish Life is a series of colorful paintings by Silvia Cohen inspired by life in Venezuela in the 50’s and 60’s. Cohen chose unique moments from her own story and those of family and friends to illustrate Venezuela’s vibrant Jewish community.
