Veo Veo, I See I See, Mwen wè Mwen wè, an Interactive Mural & Oral History Project Celebrating Black Miami History

On June 17, Miami MoCAAD and Hampton Art Lovers will co-host a Juneteenth #CreativeConversation and Celebration at the Ward Rooming House. Veo Veo, I See I See, Mwen wè Mwen wè, the mural project begins at 1021 NW 2nd Avenue in Miami, the office building of the late Judge Lawson E. Thomas. The moderator, Charlton Copeland, and panelists James McQueen, Donnamarie Baptiste, Corbin Graves will participate in a lively conversation about Overtown and the mural project. Radical Conventions: Cuban American Art from the 1980s

A landmark exhibition, "Radical Conventions: Cuban American Art from the 1980s" is the first major museum presentation to focus solely on Cuban American art created during the 1980s. By exploring the heterogeneous nature of Cuban diasporic work from this pivotal decade, the show offers a critical counterpoint to an often binary, identity-focused narrative by framing the artists’ works more expansively within the aesthetic frameworks prevalent in the American avant-garde of the late '70s-'80s and the era’s broader socio-economic, cultural, and political landscape. The exhibition features nearly 100 works by over 25 Cuban American artists representative of various generations. Click here to learn more and to reserve our complimentary tickets. On view through June 12.

From the Andes to the Caribbean: Art of the Spanish Americas from the Thoma Collection

From the Andes to the Caribbean: Art of the Spanish Americas from the Thoma Collection presents paintings from Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Cuba, and Puerto Rico dating from around 1600 to the mid-19th century. The variety of styles underlines the great diversity among works of art broadly called “Spanish Colonial.” Many of the works reflect the powerful role of the Catholic Church during three centuries of Spanish rule. The portraits featured in the exhibition were commissioned to reflect the social status of both peninsular Spaniards and Creoles, those born of Spanish families in the Americas. On view through September 4 at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU.
