Hello Everyone and Happy Friday. More importantly, wishing you a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. Honoring of course our heroes and heroines who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, and offering my respect and admiration to any of you who have a family member or dear one included.
This week, we again share key barometers that help track our destination’s performance. As one can see from the charts below, hotel demand (rooms booked) last week continued a steady week-over-week increase and is pacing 14.4% ahead for the comparable 2019 period. Hotel occupancy (even with the addition of 25 hotels in the past 24 months) demonstrated the strength of this demand and volume growth, registering 77.5% occupancy for the week – 4.1% ahead of the 2019. |
Based on the steady growth and volume, the average daily rate our hotel partners are able to command is a remarkable 41.8% ahead of the same period in 2019. |
Perhaps a new bright spot on our recovery matrix and also noted below, the volume of international arrivals at Miami International Airport – our nation’s number one now in terms of international passengers -- paced at 97.4% of the record levels achieved in 2019. It will be very important in the weeks and months ahead to see our international passenger traffic and corresponding international visitors maintain, if not grow, these levels. |
Our efforts at the GMCVB continue to ramp up in terms of outreach and engagement in our key international markets - much of which you can read about in this week’s What’s Happening. As always, thank you for your continued support and collaboration. |
