A New immersive ARTS experience imagining Miami’s future

Set in 2050, Miami’s famed museum-park, the Deering Estate, has been converted into a residential complex made up of tenants who have been displaced or retreated from different parts of the world due to climate change. When rooms become available, they decide to host their first open house while re-opening partially as an art space after recent repairs.

The public is invited to visit the property and learn about their way of life. The personal lives and conflicts of the residents, and other strange phenomena, get in the way, and visitors must navigate scenes that explore notions of community, climate change empowerment, loss and love.

Prelude to 2100 features a theatrical component written by Juan C. Sánchez and directed by Jennifer de Castroverde, interactive installations by artists Laurencia Strauss, Kerry Phillips, and the Department of Reflection, plus dance works by Olujimi Dance and Sandra Portal-Andreu. Other artworks featured are by AMLgMATD, Cara Despain, Alicia Eggert, Gustavo Matamoros, Jits Microfarm, The Queer Theory Library, Carrie Sieh, Fereshteh Toosi, and Kim Yantis & Lucinda Linderman.

Conceived by Susan Caraballo, resident artist at Live Arts Miami and Deering Estate. Created in collaboration with over 30 dance, theatre, sound and visual artists.

Prelude to 2100 has been adapted to take place entirely outdoors from Feb 3-6 due to the recent Omicron surge. The historic houses will be open to the public.
