Art of Black Miami: Celebrating Arts Culture and Diversity During Miami Art Week & Beyond
 
This year’s Art of Black Miami Season will showcase curated art initiatives organized by art organizations, galleries and spaces in neighborhoods including Historic Overtown, Little Haiti, Little Havana, Wynwood, Downtown Miami and beyond. The 2021 Art of Black Miami exhibitions and events will offer a unique appeal and cultural aesthetic represented by significant works from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and around the globe. Art of Black Miami is a marketing platform and destination driver that showcases the diversity of the visual arts locally, nationally and internationally, celebrating the black diaspora. This initiative highlights the artistic and cultural landscape found in Miami's heritage neighborhoods and communities year-round throughout Greater Miami and Miami Beach. Kimpton Epic Hotel to Launch Artist in Residency Program Ahead of Miami Art Week
 
Kimpton EPIC Hotel gets set to launch its artist in Residency Program Ahead Of Miami Art Week.  From November through December, EPIC’s 16th floor corridor will transform into a rotating exhibition space featuring original works and live art activations showcasing established and emerging artists of diverse backgrounds. The year-long program at Kimpton EPIC Hotel will help to advance the works of local artists and provide its visitors with an insider’s look into the destination’s vibrant art scene.
 
 
 
Congratulations to the Ellies 2021 Creator Award Winners
 
Congratulations to our Miami visual artists in receiving the 2021 Ellies Creator Award. The Ellies Awards, are offered in four categories to support Miami-Dade working and emerging artists, art educators, and established, professionally accomplished artists. The awards include the Michael Richards Award, the Social Justice Award, the Creator Awards, and the Teacher Travel Grants Awards. The Ellies was named in honor of Oolite Arts’ founder, Ellie Schneiderman, a visionary who recognized the power of supporting artists in their work. Art on the Plaza: Najja Moon
 
Art on the Plaza is back with the latest installment from artist Najja Moon!
Her installation will focus on themes of reflection and self-empowerment through a dynamic sculptural intervention resembling a large-scale mirror on MOCA Plaza. Through Nov. 14, you can catch the installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA)!
 
 
 
MOCA Presents: My Name is Maryan
 
The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to announce its forthcoming exhibition “My Name is Maryan”—a monographic presentation of four decades of paintings, sculptures, drawings and film by the iconoclastic, ground-breaking Polish-born artist Maryan.  The exhibition opens on Nov. 17, and will remain on view until March 20, 2022. Call to Artists from citizenM
 
citizenM is holding an open art call for artists connected to Miami to outfit its guest rooms. Artists of all calibers may digitally enter two pieces that showcase their connection to Miami, and a panel of judges will choose ten winners to permanently showcase their pieces across the guest rooms of the new citizenM Miami Brickell and World Center hotels. Selected artists will each receive a prize of $4000, plus a hotel stay.  Submission deadline is Sunday, November 28, click here to learn more. 
 
 
 
Miami MoCAAD Art Week Miami/Art Basel Kick-off
 
MiamiMoCAAD and Orlando Addison, founder of the Ernesto Gamboa project, have collaborated to host a series of virtual creative conversations aimed at community dialogue revealing hidden histories, contributions, and art of the Afro-Latinx community.  These spirited conversations share information excluded from history books regarding the Afro-Latinx community, explain historical barriers that have kept the Afro-Latinx community invisible, and share contributions of Afro-Latinx artists. On Nov. 28 from 4:00 to 6:30pm, join them as they discuss Arte, Historia y Cultura/Art, History and Culture. Register at MoCAAD.
 
 
 
Reframed: Miami Art Week Kick-Off Art Talk + Open Spin
 
Dust off your vinyl records for an Open Spin with Vinyl Social Club featuring vintage soul and hip-hop samples.  Meet artists Keisha Rae Witherspoon, Terence Price II, and Carrington Ware whose films inspired by archival footage are found in the exhibition Casting Shadows | Framing History, on display at the Opa-locka ARC through December 31, 2021.  Bring in your own retro slides, negatives and photos for a hands-on projection workshop presented by Media + Archive Studies Miami. Doral Announces Call to Artists for the Acquisition of Works of Art
 
The City of Doral has launched a Call to Artists requesting proposals from artists for the acquisition of works of art to be installed within the City of Doral. Proposals must be submitted prior to the deadline on December 8, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. to Elizabeth.Alvarez@cityofdoral.com. Miami MoCAAD Presents 2021 Bienal  de São Paulo, Brazil
 
The Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora presents the Bienal de São Paulo, the largest exhibition in the southern hemisphere, running through December 5, 2021. Featuring 91 artists from around the world, this year will include Cuban artist Belkis Ayón who is well known for her depictions of the myths from Abakuá, a secret Afrocuban society. Ase: Afro Frequencies at ARTECHOUSE
 
Inspired by the idea of Aṣẹ, the West African concept relating to our power to produce change,"Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies" (pronounced Ah-shay) celebrates the historical, social, and cultural aspects of the Black experience through the perspective of artists Vince Fraser and Ursula Rucker.  Employing unique applications of audio-visual, interactive technologies and boundary -pushing techniques to broadcast the frequencies of Fraser's core concepts out into the world, "Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies" considers historical frameworks reimagined, broiught to life in a new digital performance context.  The immersive multi-sensory show is the latest in the ARTECHOUSE series of collaborations with some of the leading digital and performance artists. The Pérez CreARTE Grant Program Will Invest Over $1.5 Million in Local Arts Organizations
 
The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation aims to develop South Florida as a world-class urban center. A thriving, equitable arts community is essential to making Greater Miami a vibrant, connected and culturally engaging place to live. Arts and cultural industries have been particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, investments in arts organizations will be essential to their rebuilding and recovery. In 2021-2022, the Foundation’s CreARTE Program will invest over $1.5 million in Miami-Dade organizations, working to cultivate this ecosystem by expanding residents’ access to the arts and making our city a global hub for artistic excellence. The Pérez CreARTE Grant Program will open to applications in late April and will be awarding two-year grants to support arts access, arts education and artist fellowships and residencies in Miami. “Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection”
 
Zimbabwean-born Tandazani Dhlakama is assistant curator at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, South Africa. Open since 2017, it is the first major contemporary art museum in Africa.  Tandazani is also the curator for the exhibition, “Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection” and it will be on display through 2021 at El Espacio 23, 2270 NW 23rd St., Miami. HistoryMiami Museum’s New Artist-in-Residence
 
HistoryMiami Museum is proud to announce their newest artist-in-residence, Rose Max & Ramatis, a music duo specializing in the popular Brazilian music styles of samba, bossa nova, and chorinho. Both born in Rio de Janeiro, Rose Max and Ramatis Moraes moved to the U.S. in 1993 and now call Miami Beach home. Through performances and presentations, Rose Max & Ramatis share their passion for Brazilian culture and an appreciation for the mix of traditions that contribute to Brazil’s rich musical history.
