American Airlines Adds New Flights at MIA
 
American Airlines (AA), Miami's hometown airline and largest passenger carrier, is adding more routes this winter, bringing its overall flight volume above pre-pandemic levels. Beginning November, American will offer two new international routes and begin service from six U.S. destinations to Miami International Airport (MIA). With these additions, AA will have 341 peak daily flights at MIA, home to one of its 10 U.S. hubs, setting a record for the airline. Click here for more information.
 
 
 
 
Women in Hospitality Leadership Panel

Nominations Open for AOHT Tourism Professional of the Year
 
The Miami-Dade County Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT) Tourism Professional of the Year Award recognizes an industry leader who has made significant contributions to the tourism community through leadership and volunteerism. The award will be presented during the 2021 South Florida Tourism Professional of the Year/Business & Education Champion Luncheon on September 30 at the Hyatt Regency Miami. AZUR Air Commences Service at MIA 
 
Azur Air begins passenger service at Miami International Airport (MIA) on November 2.  The Russian carrier will operate three weekly roundtrip flights from Moscow-Vnukovo (VKO) Airport to MIA, flying Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.  Click here for more information.
 
 
 
 
MOCA To Present Art on the Plaza
 
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) presents its most recent “Art on the Plaza” commission, “We’re All in This Together,” by Miami-based collaborative Nice’n Easy, through August 22. The playful, yet thought-provoking, temporary public installation features the museum’s front fountain transformed to resemble a swimming pool with kitschy pool toys and human characters. Kush Presents Pata Sucia Palooza
 
 Miami’s top hospitality teams will be vying for the ‘Golden Chancleta’ in the first-ever Pata Sucia Palooza – The Hialeah Summer Olympics, July 18 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Six teams will compete for bragging rights in the Olympic-styled games, with competitors tested for strength, accuracy, and basic chancleta-wielding power. The fun-filled community event, sponsored by Jim Beam, features an outdoor bar and cozy backyard BBQ.  Click here for more information.

GMCVB President & CEO to Attend U.S. Travel’s Summer Board of Directors Meeting
 
William D. Talbert III, CDME, President & CEO of the GMCVB, will be participating in the U.S. Travel Association’s Summer Board of Directors Meeting in Colorado Springs, July 21-24. Mr. Talbert, a member of U.S. Travel’s Executive Committee, will be meeting with other industry leaders to address travel and tourism industry priorities and share best practices. 
 
 
 
 
Communications Team Hosts Emirates Airline Press FAM
 
The Communications Team will host a media group from the Middle East traveling to Greater Miami on the inaugural flight from UAE to Miami International Airport, July 22-26. Journalists will have the opportunity to explore Miami’s unique cultural neighborhoods, fine dining and a variety of attractions.  
 
 
 
 
Convention Sales Welcomes Catersource
 
Catersource and The Special Event Conference & Tradeshow is slated to convene at the Miami Beach Convention Center, July 19-22.  For nearly 30 years, Catersource has served as an educational resource and expansive network for the catering and special events industries. The Miami conference is expected to draw 5,000+ attendees.

Convention Sales Welcomes The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)
 
The Convention Sales Team welcomes the STS planning team for site visits of the Miami Beach Convention Center and surrounding hotels.  STS will host their 58th Annual Meeting in Miami Beach, January 29 - February 1, 2022 with approximately 5,000 attendees and 7,000+ total room nights.
