Greater Miami Continues to Lead the Way in Hotel Recovery
 
Greater Miami experienced 74.2% hotel occupancy in May 2021, the highest among the top 25 U.S. hotel markets and 2.6% below the market’s 2019 benchmark. The destination also recorded its highest ADR ($236.07) and RevPAR ($175.23) levels – 33.6% higher than pre-pandemic – and is outperforming the entire U.S. on all three key performance metrics. Throughout the country, May occupancy reached 59.3%, ADR was $117.69 and RevPAR was $69.81. Each key metric was also the highest for any month since February 2020.

SBA Opens Business Recovery Center
 
The U.S. Small Business Administration recently opened a Business Recovery Center to help businesses impacted by the Surfside Building Collapse. The Center is located in close proximity to the Surfside Business District. The SBA also opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Sea View Hotel to assist survivors. The United Way of Miami-Dade has partnered with the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald to bring artwork to Surfside survivors following the devastating building collapse. The program, HeARTs for Healing, invites the community to share artwork of healing and love in an effort to support grieving families and survivors who have lost everything. Diaspora Arts Coalition Hosts BBQ & Blues
 
Enjoy BBQ and Blues on July 11 at 3:00 p.m. presented by the Diaspora Arts Coalition, in partnership with the M Ensemble Company. Hosted at the Sandrell Rivers Theater in Liberty City, the event is presented with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners. GMCVB to Donate Proceeds from Miami Spice Reservations to Support Surfside
 
The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau wishes to help those impacted by the tragedy in Surfside. All proceeds from Miami Spice restaurant reservations booked on MiamiTemptations.com in 2021 will be donated to relief efforts. The popular two-month Temptations program, which offers special deals to local restaurants, starts August 1st.

On July 16-19, the Communications Team, in partnership with the Kimpton Epic Hotel, hosts a group of freelance journalists invited to experience the hotel and the destination.  The Team will provide itinerary enhancement. Journalists participating represent leading publications such as Travel + Leisure, Forbes, CN Traveler, USA Today, Men’s Journal, The Points Guy, Today.com, TravelPulse, HGTV, and Florida Beyond.
 
 
 
 
Convention Sales Hosts Travel Planners
 
The Convention Sales Team recently hosted meeting planners from the Washington, D. C. area July 8-9 at various networking events. The Team update planners including Infectious Disease Society of America, National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers on what’s new in the destination.   
 
 
 
 
GMCVB President & CEO to Attend Destinations International 2021 Annual Convention

Talbert III, CDME, GMCVB President & CEO, will be among the destination marketing leaders who will be participating in this year’s Destination International Annual Convention in Baltimore, Maryland on July 12-15. On July 11-15, the Communications Team hosts Misty Wells, the first female host of an outdoor program on the Fox Sports Network, filming two Miami episodes of her hit program 'Let's Take it Outside,' broadcast on Fox Sports Sun (6.5M Viewers) and World Fishing Network (13M Viewers).

On July 14-17, the Communications Team, in partnership with the City of Miami Beach, hosts Paul Laster, reporting on Miami’s art scene and Miami Beach's “No Vacancy” art initiative for Whitehot Magazine, one of the most popular international art magazines (28,313 UVM).
 
 
 
 
Communications Team Hosts Colombian Influencer
 
The Communications Team will be hosting social media influencer Monica Lola Diaz (300K Instagram) July 12 - 15. While in Miami, Diaz will be researching Miami attractions, the Art Deco Cultural District and enjoying a variety of dining options.
