MIA Continues to Lead the Way in the Recovery of Airports |
|
Tourism is on the rebound, signaling the return of flights as well as adding new carriers, resulting in more available seats for visitors who want to fly into Greater Miami. Miami International Airport is outperforming all U.S. Airports in adding seat capacity for June 2021 (up +334.2% year over year) as compared to the industry average (+157.7%). During June 2020, MIA had an average of 16,198 daily seats and this has grown to 70,330 daily seats in June 2021.
Adding more flights has been a solid strategy, with daily passenger traffic now reaching almost pre-pandemic levels. Decreased demand for travel and pandemic restrictions drastically reduced the number of passengers traveling through MIA since the start of the pandemic, but airlines are becoming increasingly confident that travel is making a comeback and they are encouraged to offer more flights to capture the pent-up demand.
