Art of Black Miami Podcast 
 
As part of a continuation of year-round programming that showcases the diversity of visual arts celebrating the black diaspora, Art of Black Miami will feature a podcast series highlighting Miami-based artists. Beginning April 19th the monthly podcast will introduce one artist as they share their experiences and artistic expression influenced by Miami’s cultural landscape.  The Art of Black Miami Podcast will introduce the stories of emerging and experienced artists who make Miami an exciting place to live and visit.  For more information about Art of Black Miami and the new Podcast Series visit Art of Black Miami.
 
 
 
Miami’s newest Murals are showcased in Miami Beach and Little Havana
 
A celebration of some of Miami’s iconic figures are represented through mural Art.  In late March the Washington Avenue Business Improvement District unveiled a stunning new mural by Ignacio Marino Larrique, which showcases celebrities with ties to Miami Beach.  The highlight included Muhammad Ali, Jackie Gleason, Jayne Mansfield, Gianni Versace and Prince.  This mural is located at 1543 Washington Avenue and is the first mural on this main thoroughfare. On April 5th in Little Havana, a celebration paying homage to the late and great songbird Celia Cruz was captured on the building at 1356 SW 8th Street near Óptica López.  The mural created by Miss Lushy, captures Celia's smile while in front of a microphone.  Both murals are welcome additions which showcase the art, culture and history of Miami Dade. 
 
 
 
Hampton Art Lovers Presents “To Miami, With Love”: Pandemic Life & Protest
 
Beginning April 8th through May 8th, Hampton Art Lovers and the Historic Ward Rooming House Gallery supports local African-American artists and their personal narratives of reflection. “To Miami, with Love”: Pandemic Life and Protest by Rahsaan Alexander” is a photographic art exhibition that provides a moment of reflection about life in Miami during an historic moment. This unique installation is an interactive multimedia series of programs featuring photography, literature, music, food and dance that commemorates the one year anniversary of the first lives lost to the pandemic in Miami. The Black Archives Launches “If These Streets Could Talk” Mural Contest
 
The Black Archives History and Research Foundation of South FL, Inc. invites local history lovers to participate in a contest centered around the new historic photograph display wrapping the glass lobby windows of Historic Lyric Theater. The participant who can correctly identify the images depicting historic people/places/events in all 61 panels, will be crowned “Miami’s Black History Guru” and have their name listed on the published mural legend and children’s coloring poster of the mural, receive a free 2-year Black Archives Membership, and free tickets to Black Archives events for a year. Introducing MOAD Talks and Free Admission Thursdays
 
Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College recently announced the launch of their new MOAD Talks series; a new online program that convenes artists, curators, critics, and others to explore the provocative art and ideas in MOAD's exhibitions. In conjunction with their current exhibition, The Body Electric, MOAD Talks kicked off with an educational presentation by Pavel Pyś, Curator of Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center and the guest curator of the exhibition at MOAD. Advance registration is required for live events, MOAD Talks are free and open to the public. Admission to MOAD is free every Thursday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, no advance reservation required. MOCA North Miami to Present 1st Retrospective of Late Afro-Caribbean Artist Michael Richards
 
The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is proud to host the exhibition “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” ― the first museum retrospective of the work of Michael Richards. The Afro-Caribbean artist’s sculptural and drawing practice reflects on issues of racial inequity, anti-blackness, and diasporic identity.Co-curated by Alex Fialho and Melissa Levin, “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” marks the largest exhibition of Richards’ work to date and will be on view from April 21 through Oct. 10, 2021. Richards passed away in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks while working in his Lower Manhattan Cultural Council World Views studio, located on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center Tower One. The exhibition will be on view from April 21 through Oct. 10, 2021, commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
 
 
 
The Pérez CreARTE Grant Program Will Invest Over $1.5 Million in Local Arts Organizations
 
The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation aims to develop South Florida as a world-class urban center. A thriving, equitable arts community is essential to making Greater Miami a vibrant, connected and culturally engaging place to live. Arts and cultural industries have been particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, investments in arts organizations will be essential to their rebuilding and recovery. In 2021-2022, the Foundation’s CreARTE Program will invest over $1.5 million in Miami-Dade organizations, working to cultivate this ecosystem by expanding residents’ access to the arts and making our city a global hub for artistic excellence.  The Pérez CreARTE Grant Program will open to applications in late April and will be awarding two-year grants to support arts access, arts education and artist fellowships and residencies in Miami.    To learn more visit CreARTE.
 
 
 
Locust Projects Presents Works By GeoVanna Gonzalez
HOW TO: Oh, look at me
 
Continuing Locust Projects’ yearlong focus on women artists that kicked off in spring 2020, it is proud to present two new exhibitions during Women’s History Month. GeoVanna Gonzalez’s: HOW TO: Oh, look at me, is the fourth large-scale installation deepens the artist’s commitment to creating provocative, participatory social spaces within institutional settings. Also on view is Disembodied, a new exhibition of videos by seven women artists guest curated by Dennis Scholl featuring Cara Despain, Julie Fliegenspan, Alexa Lim Haas, Jillian Mayer, Nicole Salcedo, Lorna Simpson and Siena Stubbs.  To learn more visit Locust Projects.
 
 
 
DVCAI Showcases the Work of Miami and National Artists
 
The diversity of Miami artists and their works will be represented at the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator’s exhibition. The exhibition, Inter|Sectionality: Diaspora Art From The Creole City is curated by DVCAI’s founder Rosie Gordon-Wallace and features the work of twenty-five artists including local and national representation. “Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection”
 
Zimbabwean-born Tandazani Dhlakama is assistant curator at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, South Africa. Open since 2017, it is the first major contemporary art museum in Africa.  Tandazani is also the curator for the exhibition, “Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places Artist Calls
 

Oolite Arts - Save the Bay PSA Contest - Deadline April 12, 2021 at 6 p.m.

This PSA contest asking for an artist perspective on saving one of Miami’s most precious resources: Biscayne Bay. After a year of reports on algae blooms, pollution, and suffering plant and marine life, we are looking for short pieces that can lead to a brighter future for our environment.

Five filmmakers will be selected to win $2,500 in funding to create a 30-60 second Public Service Announcement. The winning PSAs will be presented at an outdoor socially distanced community event. The community will also be asked to vote on their favorite PSA, and the People’s Choice winner will receive an extra $1,000. Provides grants to nonprofit organizations providing cultural arts outreach programs that enrich the lives of children through the arts by making the arts available to more children and families throughout Miami-Dade County.

All applicants to the Youth Arts Enrichment (YEP) Program must attend one (1) workshop prior to application. Refer to the YEP PROGRAM GUIDELINES or contact the grant administrator for further pre-application requirements.

Provides general operating support grants and technical assistance to a designated group of Miami-Dade County's mid-sized, artistically accomplished and culturally diverse performing, visual, literary and presenting arts organizations that are defining the cultural and artistic voice of Miami. Applicants to this program must have a total average of the prior two-year’s organizational budget of $250,000 or more.  

Spring Grant Applications
Since 2014, the Coral Gables Community Foundation has formally awarded grants to deserving local non-profit organizations that address issues within our focus areas and serve those who live, work, learn and play in Coral Gables. The Foundation has a strong commitment toward programs benefiting education, arts & culture, historic preservation and social & health services. Apply here. Challenge America Grant
Challenge America offers support primarily to small organizations for projects in all artistic disciplines that extend the reach of the arts to populations that are underserved. Challenge America features an abbreviated application, a robust structure of technical assistance, and grants for a set amount of $10,000. Grants require a cost share/match of $10,000 consisting of cash and/or in-kind contributions. Total project costs must be at least $20,000 or greater.  This category is an entry point for organizations seeking Arts Endowment funding. See Applicant Eligibility for more information. HistoryMiami Museum is proud to announce our newest artist-in-residence, Delou Africa Dance Ensemble! Delou Africa Dance Ensemble is a leading West African folklore company and artist collective of talented drummers, musicians, dancers, and storytellers.  Founded by Njeri Plato, the organization showcases rich traditions of West Africa through artistic expression, education, and cultural preservation. Delou Africa offers year-round programs, including the annual African Diaspora Dance & Drum Festival of Florida.
