Lyric Live All Star Tribute to Betty Wright, “Miami’s Queen of Soul”
 
The Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater invites you to the Lyric Live Season 7 opener on Friday, February 5 at 7:30pm both virtual and in person. Kicking off the season with an All-Star Show as a musical salute to the late Betty Wright, Miami’s Queen of Soul, the show will be hosted by comedian Chello Davis with live music by Jody Hill & Deep Fried Funk Band, DJ H2, and Showtyme Junkanoo. Tribute performances by Lyric Live Alumni: VesSoul (Season 3 Winner); Laurana Strachan (Season 5 Winner); Gia Wyre (Season 6 Winner); and James P. Jackson, Jr. (Lyric Live Alumni). MUCE Open Air Market Celebrates Love, Friendship & Black History
 
MUCE Open Air Market reopens Sunday February 14, 2021 from noon to 8pm. Themed Celebrate Love, Friendship & Black History the event will include local vendors, art, workshops and live entertainment. Located at 246 NW 54th Street in Little Haiti, patrons are encouraged to RSVP here. YWCA 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge
 
For 100 years, YWCA has been at the forefront of changing the lives of women in South Florida by addressing social injustices. This month, YWCA South Florida invites you to accept the 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge – the largest, free community racial and social justice collective learning movement.  Starting February 15,  you can  learn, grow, listen, and discuss how racism and bias impact everyday life and communities at large with other South Florida individuals and teams. 
 
 
 
Heritage Fest 2021
 
Heritage Fest 2021 - The Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity will feature a multidisciplinary, virtual celebration of performance and culture in Miami while supporting artists from the African Diaspora in our community. The fest will have something for everyone, with fun for the entire family. Tune in and bop to the livestreamed mini-concerts, learn a new self-care or styling technique, listen to Miami's rich Pan-African history, take a virtual tour of a Black-owned gallery, take in beautiful choreography, create a work of art and more — all for FREE and from the safety and comfort of your home.  To register and learn more about the February 20th event, visit Heritage Fest.
 
 
 
Save the Date for the the State of Black Philanthropy will be held Virtually on February 24
 
The Miami Foundation will host its sixth annual State of Black Philanthropy on February 24th virtually.  The evening will honor the continuing legacy of generous Black Miamians strengthening our community and will gather donors, community leaders and residents to showcase and celebrate Black philanthropy, leadership, and community impact, while also reflecting on the urgency for increased action to address persistent inequalities. The Doral Contemporary Art Museum (DORCAM) presents 'Manolo Valdés - The Legacy
 
The Doral Contemporary Art Museum (DORCAM) presents 'Manolo Valdés - The Legacy,' an outdoor exhibition of monumental sculptures by this world-renowned Contemporary Art Master. In partnership with the City of Doral, the monumental sculptures will be installed in the main public parks of the City of Doral as well as other selected locations. The Heritage Project: The Business of Show
 
On February 24th at 5:30 p.m., the Heritage Project artistic salon series continues with The Business of Show. This salon will explore the economic impact and cultural significance of Black trailblazers in the performing arts. We will look at artists as business professionals and discuss how Black culture has become a commodity. The panel will consist of arts administrators, performers and others.  This discussion will capture the spirit of a Harlem Renaissance salon, where Black leaders, intellectuals, activists, artists, educators and business owners would come together to discuss matters impacting the Black community.  Click here to register.
 
 
 
MOCA Celebrates Haitian Independence Day 
 
In celebration of Haitian Independence Day, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) hosted an intimate Haitian-American program of music and poetry on January 1st featuring Haitian-American multidisciplinary artist Inez Barlatier, musician and surrealist visual artist Jan Sebon, and author Fabienne Josaphat.  This virtual performance coincided with the museum’s current exhibition “Life & Spirituality in Haitian Art: Selection from the Betty and Isaac Rudman Trust Collection,” on view through March 14, 2021.
 
 
 
5000 Role Models of Excellence Presents the 28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast
 
Since U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson founded the program in 1993 the organization has paired about 10,000 at-risk students with mentors to steer them away from crime and violence.  This year the breakfast was held virtually on Monday, January 18 and headlined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III, while honoring the life and teachings of the Civil Rights leader. 
 
 
 
One Night In Miami Debuts Locally
 
The Hampton House, a historic Green Book hotel in Brownsville, along with Amazon Studios hosted a VIP private screening of the directorial debut of Regina King's film, One Night In Miami that depicts the magical night in Miami in 1964 that Muhammad Ali celebrated his heavyweight championship victory with his close friends Sam Cooke, Malcolm X and Jim Brown. Check out the official trailer here, or view the film on Amazon Prime or locally as Landmark Theatres.  The Hampton House will do future programming around the movie plus other activities throughout 2021.

Overtown Children & Youth Coalition is hiring parent leaders immediately.  Must be a resident of Overtown and have experience as a parent, grandparent, foster parent, caregiver or guardian of children and youth ages 0-24.  Must be willing to advocate on behalf of Overtown children and have a flexible schedule.  Pays $15-$25 per hour for 1-0-25 hours per month. Share Your Mariel Story
 
HistoryMiami Museum and the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries have partnered on a year-long program, El Efecto Mariel: Before, After, and During, comprising of webinars, live film streamings, informal talks, oral histories, and exhibitions.  You can share your personal memories, stories, and reflections related to Mariel. Stories will be collected virtually on a rolling basis and a series of prompts give you ideas from where you can begin your story. Submitted stories will become part of the permanent collections of the HistoryMiami Museum and Cuban Heritage Collection and featured on both online platforms. Learn more.
