Gifted and Black: Miami's Art Scene 2021 and Beyond
 
Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora, Miami MoCAAD, will present a culturally engaging virtual #Creative Conversation entitled, Gifted and Black: Miami's Art Scene 2021 and Beyond, Thursday, February 25 at 7 pm. Some of Miami's top black artists and creatives will share thoughts and experiences about navigating Miami’s landscape and perspectives on the future. This Creative Conversation will be moderated by Melissa Hunter Davis, Publisher, Sugarcane Magazine. Panelists include: Marcus Blake, artist; Adrienne Chadwick, artist, Arts & Culture Manager, Opa-locka CDC; Dejha Carrington, Vice President of External Relations, National YoungArts Foundation; Adler Guerrier, artist; Mikhaile Solomon, Founder, Prizm Contemporary Art Fair; Rosie Gordon-Wallace, Founder, Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator; Dinizulu Gene Tinnie, artist, Trustee, Virginia Key Park Trust. DVCAI Showcases the Work of Miami and National Artists
 
The diversity of Miami artists and their works will be represented at the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator’s exhibition. The exhibition, Inter|Sectionality: Diaspora Art From The Creole City is curated by DVCAI’s founder Rosie Gordon-Wallace and features the work of twenty-five artists including local and national representation. Join Hampton Art Lovers for the grand re-opening of "Dennis Manuel: The Eye of AFROPUNK": an exploration into the realm of Afropunk through the lens of Dennis Manuel. As the official AFROPUNK photographer, “Dennis Manuel: the Eye of AFROPUNK” presents a look into the celebration of Blackness found within the realm of AFROPUNK’s offbeat stage performances, inclusive crowd, and groundbreaking expressionism. Eighth Anniversary Celebration of the PAMM Fund for African American ArtMiami
 
The party of the year is back again in a new way! On February 6th, the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) Director Franklin Sirmans and the PAMM Ambassadors for African American Art, will host Art + Soul, a celebration of the PAMM Fund for African American Art,  Art + Soul has earned its place as one of Miami’s premier social and fundraising events and this year the event will be held virtually.  For further details visit Art + Soul.
 
 
 
Miami Emerging Arts Leaders - The Importance of Advocacy: Arts, Culture and Education in 2021
 
On Friday, February 19, 2021 at 2 PM, join President and CEO of the Florida Cultural Alliance, Jennifer Jones, and Michael Spring, Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Chair of the Florida Cultural Alliance, to explore how you can effectively advocate for the arts in Florida. Our state-wide arts advocacy organization, the Florida Cultural Alliance works to increase state’s investment in artists and cultural organizations. “Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection”
 
Zimbabwean-born Tandazani Dhlakama is assistant curator at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, South Africa. Open since 2017, it is the first major contemporary art museum in Africa.  Tandazani is also the curator for the exhibition, “Witness: Afro Perspectives from the Jorge M. National Endowment for the Arts - Grants for Arts Projects
 
The grants support arts projects that use the arts to unite and heal in response to current events; celebrate our creativity and cultural heritage; invite mutual respect for differing beliefs and values; and enrich humanity. Applicants may request cost share/matching grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.  New grant program guidelines are now available in the  Grants for Arts Projects  (GAP) category, with the first GAP deadline on February 11, 2021. Alexander Orr Drinking Water Lab
Submission Deadline: Monday, February 15, 2021, 11:59 p.m.
Budget:  $65,000
Eligibility: Open to professional visual artists based in South Florida. Eligible artists create artwork on a regular basis for a duration of time in South Florida.

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has an existing Laboratory at the Alexander Orr Water Treatment Plant (AOWTP) for testing and sampling the quality of the Drinking Water in their distribution system. The selected artist(s) will design unique artwork(s) that will contribute to the identity of this facility and engage employees, visitors, and passers-by in unexpected and delightful ways. Budget:  $205,000
Eligibility: Open to professional visual artists based in South Florida. Eligible artists create artwork on a regular basis for a duration of time in South Florida.

Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs through its Art in Public Places Program, Miami-Dade County Department of Public Housing and Community Development, and partner Related Urban request qualifications from professional artists and/or artist teams to commission artworks for the new Brisas Del Este affordable housing facility. A special feature of this opportunity includes artwork that references to or works to acknowledge the historic nature of the housing campus. Travel + Leisure features Art of Black Miami
 
Travel + Leisure, a travel magazine that provides news and insights related to destinations, hotels and resorts, tips, and bookings, recently featured several of our multicultural neighborhoods and locales in which Art of Black Miami exhibits were on display. Included in the article are the Wynwood Walls, the Red Rooster, Little Haiti Cultural Center, Bon Gout BBQ, the Hampton House, PAMM and Verde as well as an interview with Petra Brennan, Director of Tourism Business Enhancement with the GMCVB Multicultural Tourism & Development Department. Art of Black Miami is a marketing platform and destination driver that showcases the diversity of the visual arts locally, nationally and internationally, celebrating the black diaspora. Kimpton Hotels – MLK Jr. Weekend Art Activation
 

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Kimpton South Beach hotels which include, EPIC, Palomar South Beach, Surfcomber and Anglers, paid homage to the holiday by hosting local artist pop-up events over the long weekend. Each hotel, in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s - Art of Black Miami program, spotlighted one local Black artist by displaying several curated pieces in its lobby along with biographical and inspirational information about the displayed artist. Participating artists included Marcus Blake, Zeek Mathias, Annick Duvivier and Sophia Wong. In addition, each hotel hosted intimate artist meet and greets during its nightly social hour, where guests connected directly with the artist, asked questions and learned more about the displayed works. MOCA North Miami to Present 1st Retrospective of Late Afro-Caribbean Artist Michael Richards
 
The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is proud to host the exhibition “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” ― the first museum retrospective of the work of Michael Richards. The Afro-Caribbean artist’s sculptural and drawing practice reflects on issues of racial inequity, anti-blackness, and diasporic identity.Co-curated by Alex Fialho and Melissa Levin, “Michael Richards: Are You Down?” marks the largest exhibition of Richards’ work to date and will be on view from April 21 through Oct. 10, 2021. Richards passed away in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks while working in his Lower Manhattan Cultural Council World Views studio, located on the 92nd floor of World Trade Center Tower One. The exhibition will be on view from April 21 through Oct. 10, 2021, commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11.

HistoryMiami Museum is proud to announce our newest artist-in-residence, Delou Africa Dance Ensemble! Delou Africa Dance Ensemble is a leading West African folklore company and artist collective of talented drummers, musicians, dancers, and storytellers.  Founded by Njeri Plato, the organization showcases rich traditions of West Africa through artistic expression, education, and cultural preservation. Delou Africa offers year-round programs, including the annual African Diaspora Dance & Drum Festival of Florida.
