Miami Smooth Jazz Festival
 
Please join the Miami Smooth Jazz Festival on Saturday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. for a virtual presentation of this year's event.  The host for the Virtual Miami Smooth Jazz Festival is the innovative contemporary smooth jazz saxophonist Marion Meadows. Miami Beach Salsa Festival
 
Miami Beach Salsa Festival is a free community event that's been held at at the North Beach Bandshell for seven years in a row! This year, due to the pandemic they will be holding it virtually on Saturday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m.  Their mission is to bring all types of people together to celebrate salsa music and its culture. It has been one of the most successful community events in North Beach!  Produced by Melina Almodovar and Almodovar Musica Productions.  Presented with support from Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council and South Florida Seniors in Action.
 
 
 
Pour Your Art Out: Batik Hoop Painting Workshop
 
Join batik artist Munirah Rimer of Teratai Malaysia for a 60-minute batik-painting workshop. Participants will create a batik handkerchief (choice of four designs) while learning about batik from around the world.  The Pour Your Art Out series consists of 60-minute artmaking sessions designed for children and adolescents. Sessions will be taught by Miami visual artists and will explore different themes, cultures and topics to inspire fun and creativity.
 
 
 
Take Back Time Film Screening and Artist Panel Q&A Presented by National Young Artist Summit
 
Take Back Time has been selected for the National Young Artists Summit! Join members of Courageous Creatives for a screening and discussion of Take Back Time on Saturday, November 7 at 4:00pm!  The 2020 National Young Artists Summit: An Artistic Youth Revolution is being held November 7-8.  With the theme An Artistic Youth Revolution, this FREE virtual 2-day Summit, entirely designed and led by young people, is a space for dreaming and using the arts to imagine a different and better future.
 
 
 
Celebrate Diwali at Miami Association of Indian Americans for Culture and Arts
 
The Asian American Advisory Board in partnership with the Miami Association of Indian Americans for Culture and Arts (MAIACA) is hosting a virtual Diwali celebration, also known as the Festival of Lights, on Sunday, November 8th at 6:00 p.m.  Join in for a festive cooking demonstration, gift ideas, and a guide on creating iconic Diwali are. Monday at Museum / Black Lives in a Jewish Context Series
 
On Monday, November 9th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. join the JMOF-FIU and Dr. Tudor Parfitt for the virtual launch of his book, Hybrid Hate: Conflations of Anti-Black Racism and Anti-Semitism from the Renaissance to the Third Reich. Hybrid Hate is the first book to study the conflation of antisemitism and anti-Black racism. As objects of racism, Jews and Blacks have been linked together for centuries as peoples apart from the general run of humanity. In this book, Parfitt investigates the development of anti-Semitism, anti-Black racism, and race theory in the West from the Renaissance to the Second World War. Click here to register.
 
 
 
Thursday at Three: In Conversation with Steve Marcus
 
JMOF-FIU curator Jacqueline Goldstein will speak with New York based artist, Steve Marcus about his current work in this edition of Thursdays at Three. JMOF-FIU visitors will remember Marcus's exhibition Through The Hat, in 2019. The colorful exhibition included more than 26 wood-carved sculptures and Jewish ritual objects, more than a baker’s dozen hand-drawn works of art on paper, and custom synagogue furniture. The Art of Mindfulness
 
The Lowe’s Art of Mindfulness remote sessions take place on Tuesdays at 1:00 PM. Each session lasts approximately 40 minutes (30-minute guided practice with 10-minute reflection and Q & A).  Registration is required to participate in these free Zoom sessions .The Art of Mindfulness, is a collaboration between the Lowe Art Museum and Miami Law’s Mindfulness in Law Program. Guided practices are offered in partnership with UMindfulness and Mindfultime. Select November 10th or November 17th to register.
 
 
 
Indie Flicks:Reggae Boyz Presented by SMDCAC
 
Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. But on November 16, 1997, when Jamaica's national soccer team – a.k.a. the 'Reggae Boyz' – qualified for the 1998 World Cup, not a single bullet was fired in the country.  As the Reggae Boyz embark on their 2014 World Cup campaign, an amateur player named 'Tuffy' Anderson dreams of playing on the national team. Tuffy works in a steel factory by day and plays in the local amateur league by night, refusing to give up his dream of one day playing on the national team.  The screening will be held on November 13th and is free with RSVP.

Sunday, November 15th at 5:00 p.m. The Arsht Center’s Free Gospel Sundays returns for its 14th season of spirited performances Sunday, November 15 with a virtual concert featuring Pastor Marc Cooper & Friends, with opening acts Hands at Work for Christ Sign Language Troupe and Lady of Harp. Baila Little Havana! Con Marisol Blanco
 
Dancer and Master Instructor Marisol Blanco offers a weekly Afro-Cuban dance class that spans the history, songs, steps, beats, passion, mysticism, and intensity of Cuban folklore and culture. The course includes traditional ballroom dances such as the danzón, mambo, cha cha chá, pilón, mozambique, son and the casino. Marisol will also teach dances of the Afro-Cuban heritage such as rumba (in its various expressions: yambú, guaguancó and columbia); and of various ethnicities and African traditions including Yoruba (from the Orichas), Aará (Fodunes), Bantú (Mpungos) and also Haitian (Loaces). Classes are every Monday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
 
 
 
Virtual Storybook Picnic / Picnic de Libro en Casa
 
Along with the Fundación Cuatrogatos and Miami Book Fair, the Koubek Center has re-imagined our Storybook Picnics as virtual events, encouraging kids to create their personal version of the picnics at home while joining us on our virtual picnic. The 30-minute bilingual Storybook Picnics at Home take place twice a month on November 14 & 21 from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m., and feature story time, mime and circus performances, children’s theatre, music, percussion and arts and crafts demos. Kids can invite their favorite stuffed animals, GI Joes, dolls, and toys to join them on a blanket; or have their BFF connect at the same time. Some might like to create a video or reading from their favorite book to share with their friends online. 
 
 
 
Little Havana Social Club ¡en casa!
 
Little Havana Social Club ¡en casa! will bring home the sounds and spirit of the fiesta de barrio with a contemporary Miami touch. Rooted in tradition but also electric and cosmopolitan, the new monthly concert series Little Havana Social Club ¡en casa! will feature established artists such as Jahfe, Leslie Cartaya, and The Wizzards. Beginning Thursday, October 29, and continuing on November 19, and December 17 from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Little Havana Social Club ¡en casa! will weave the sweet swing of son into the rich history of Miami soul and R&B; surpise the audience with the unique atmosphere of Teatro Salvaje; mix ancient Afro-Venezuelan grooves and electronica; and tell us stories through the soul-flavored vocals of Keba or in the powerful poetry of Lyrical G from Guitars Over Guns. With the original artwork of Luis Valle aka El Chan Guri and hosted by the one-and only Latin Grammy nominated DJ and Producer Mr. Pauer, the Little Havana Social Club ¡en casa! series will air on Facebook @KoubekCenterMDC.
 
 
 
Operas Greatest Hits

The Heritage Project artistic salon series continues with Black Perspectives on the Great White Way. This salon will explore navigating a Broadway career as a Black artist. This discussion will capture the spirit of a Harlem Renaissance salon, where Black leaders, intellectuals, activists, artists, educators and business owners would come together to discuss matters impacting the Black community. The South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center launched a virtual cabaret, a Miami-based project for local artists to showcase their talents. SMDCAC Sessions featured amazing live online arts experiences with music, dance and theatre. The sessions support local artists financially, emotionally and creatively during these challenging times. Sunday, November 29th: A free, monthly IDEAS program created to engage families with children of all ages in activities that encourage conversation, exploration and experimentation through art. Activities include a virtual family tour of the current exhibitions on view, an ‘Art Hunt’ to investigate our virtual galleries and an at-home ‘Design Challenge’ using common household materials. Meet the Curator of Remaking Miami: Josefina Tarafa's Photographs of the 1970s
 
Scholar and guest curator José Antonio Navarrete speaks about the remarkable work of Josefina Tarafa, a prominent Cuban exile, photographer and philanthropist who captured Miami's profound transformation during the 1970s with exceptional documentary photographs.  "Josefina was ahead of her time," Navarrete says. "She was one of the first people to explore the relationship between immigration and culture." Discover the black experience in America and the powerfully significant contributions of African American filmmakers through decades of film history, via the MBC archive. From the first years of cinema, black filmmakers have been invaluable to the cultural fabric that makes up American film history and important voices in the struggles and problems in our society. Over decades lessons have been learned from these contributions, but continuing setbacks and deep flaws continue to prove the value of the works defining African American stories.  The archive is a work in progress and it continues to grow through many stages. Coming soon is the 1970s, an important decade of black history in America which included many works by independent African American filmmakers, blaxploitation and the L. A. The Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South Florida, Inc. has launched the #SaferAtHome Virtual Series as way to stay connected while social distancing with black history programming. The #SaferAtHome Virtual Series, with programs 6 days a week, includes live broadcasts from Black Archives staff on social media, covering Black History trivia, little-known facts, profiles in black history, story-time for children, and even a virtual version of the popular amateur Friday night program, Lyric Live – now known as the Lyric Live Living Room Edition. Ballet Flamenco La Rosa Performing Arts School, in collaboration with PAN Performing Arts Network are offering the first class free.  They feature virtual Dance, Music and Theatre classes for students of all ages and levels. Operation Pedro Pan: Our Parents' Decision
 

Imagine leaving your homeland as a child, without your parents, to live in a foreign country. That was the reality for the more than 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban boys and girls who left their homeland to come to the United States in what became the largest recorded child refugee exodus in the Western Hemisphere, which lasted from 1960-1962. HistoryMiami Museum documented the emotional journey these children – and their families – underwent to escape Cuba. These videos from their past exhibition are some of their powerful stories that can be viewed here online.
